The mother tongue plays an essential role in the daily lives of people, and it is vital to ensure that our languages survive. We can do this by developing language technology tools and applications so languages can enter the digital realm and make sure our children receive enough input in their mother tongue to become proficient language users.

Eiríkur Rögnvaldsson, Professor Emeritus in Icelandic Language and Linguistics at the University of Iceland, discuss in the talk ‘(How) can small languages survive?’ how the digital revolution and the global dominance of English impact small languages like Icelandic.
